Dr. Sharifah Women’s Clinic is an award recipient of the Best Obstetrician & Gynaecologist Clinic of the Year in the Asia Pacific for two consecutive years in 2020 and 2021 Global Healthcare Asia Pacific. It has been established to provide personal expert service to all women in female health.
Our team is led by Dr. Sharifah Halimah Jaafar, a senior consultant obstetrician & gynaecologist. With a friendly and pleasant environment setup, we hope that our new approach to providing women’s health services will encourage women to seek medical advice on a more regular basis to maintain their wellbeing.
She received her primary medical degree (M.D) from UKM in 1991 and completed her Master’s Degree of Medicine in Obstetrics & Gynaecology from UKM in 2001.
She started to learn operative laparoscopy back in the year 2003. She received hands-on training in minimally invasive surgery from many renowned laparoscopic experts locally and internationally and a hands-on advanced gynae-laparoscopic course in IRCAD Training Centre, Taiwan, in 2014.
She completed the internationally accredited ISGE course of Bachelor in Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIGS) from the International Society of Gynae-Endoscopy in 2018. She also participated in an accredited Diploma course in Minimally Invasive Surgery (Basic to Advanced) endorsed by the University of Schleswig Holstein-Keil Germany in 2020.
She has recently completed a Master in Science of Pelvic Anatomy Landmark and a Master in Surgical Management of Deeply Infiltrating Endometriosis from MIS Academy led by Prof Dr. Arnaud Wattiez, accredited by the European Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy (ESGE).
Apart from minimally invasive surgery, Dr. Sharifah also received hands-on training in Fertility & IVF from CREST Centre, Vietnam, in 2014.
For the record, Dr. Sharifah is currently performing approximately 350 – 400 cases of advanced gynae laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery per year, including total laparoscopic hysterectomy from small to a large uterus mass, laparoscopic myomectomy & adenomyomectomy for uterine fibroid and adenomyosis, laparoscopic cystectomy for ovarian cyst from simple to complex, all spectrum of endometriosis in particular deeply infiltrating endometriosis, fertility-sparing, and nerve-sparing endometriosis surgery.
She is currently a chairperson for the OGSM Gynae-Endoscopic Subcommittee for 2021/2022 and a Gynaecological Endoscopy Society OF Malaysia (GESM) life member. She is also a member of the Asia Pacific Association of Gynaecological Endoscopy (APAGE) and MIS Academy.
She is passionate about the gynae-endoscopy field and is making a tremendous effort to encourage young gynecologists to learn and upgrade their skills in gynae laparoscopic surgery in Johor and Malaysia.
She was also recently appointed as a Medical Advisor for the Endometriosis Society of Malaysia (MyEndosis).
Dr. Sharifah Halimah Jaafar is a senior consultant obstetrician and gynecologist with over 25 years of expertise in managing a wide range of gynecological conditions, from routine cases to the most complex. A highly accomplished and skilled surgeon, she specializes in advanced laparoscopic and robotic gynecological surgery across various indications. Her special focus is in Endometriosis surgery.
Dr. Sharifah’s journey to becoming a senior consultant obstetrician and gynecologist is marked by extensive training and hands-on experience. She earned her medical degree (M.D) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 1991 and completed her Master’s in Obstetrics & Gynecology in 2001. Since 2003, she has been at the forefront of operative laparoscopy, receiving hands-on training from renowned experts globally and locally. Notably, she completed advanced gynecologic laparoscopic training at the IRCAD Training Centre in Taiwan (2014) and attained international accreditation with the ISGE Bachelor in Minimally Invasive Surgery in 2018. She further honed her expertise through a Master’s Course in Pelvic Anatomy and the Surgical Management of Deep Infiltrating Endometriosis under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Arnaud Wattiez, accredited by the European Society of Gynecological Endoscopy. Most recently, in 2023, Dr. Sharifah was certified as an Intuitive Robotic Surgeon in Gynecology by Intuitive da Vinci Robotic Surgery. She performs approximately 300-400 advanced laparoscopic surgeries annually and has conducted nearly 100 robotic surgeries, ranging from routine to highly complex procedures.
Dr. Sharifah’s leadership extends beyond her surgical skills. She is the founder and President of the Advanced MIS, Robotic & Ablation Society of Gynaecologists Malaysia (AMRAS), an organization that advocates for the adoption of advanced technologies in women’s healthcare. She has also held prominent roles, including being a council member of OGSM, chairperson of the OGSM Gynae-Endoscopic Subcommittee (2023/2024), and honorary secretary of the Gynaecological Endoscopy Society of Malaysia.
Her commitment to advancing gynecological care extends to her passionate mentorship of the next generation of gynecologists. Through her leadership, she inspires and encourages young professionals in Malaysia and Johor to pursue skill development in laparoscopic and robotic surgery, ensuring the continued excellence of women’s healthcare.
