About Vaginal Health
Female reproductive organ located in close proximity with the bladder in the front and the rectum on it back. Thus, the location risks the vagina from infection or contamination from microorganisms in the rectum.
In the vagina, there are microfloraor commensal that colonized the vagina and act as a front line defense mechanism to eliminate other dangerous pathogens from growing or invade our body and cause illness. The normal microflora, lactobacillus grows in great number and become dorminant microorganism in the vagina. It secretes natural disinfectant i.e hydrogen chloride to keep vaginal clean from overgrowth of other pathogen and maintain vaginal pH.
Loss of lactobacillus in number will result in overgrowth of yeast and other pathogens in the vagina that usually in small number. This shift or change in vaginal eco-system will result in vaginal infection and symptom like abnormal vaginal discharge, foul or unpleasant smell coming from the vagina especially after period or after sexual intercourse or burning sensation when pass urine.
